# MetaQuiet

> MetaQuiet is a mobile app for Android and iPhone that shows the metadata inside photos, videos, audio files, PDFs, Office documents and ZIP archives, then creates a separate clean copy with the supported metadata removed. Everything runs on the phone: files are not uploaded, there is no account, no ads and no analytics. The original file is never changed. The app is in testing and free during early access.

Key facts:

- What it removes: supported EXIF and XMP data in photos (including GPS location, camera model, capture dates and author fields), PDF document information and XMP, Office document properties (author, company, last edited by), video container tags and dates, audio tags, and ZIP archive metadata.
- What stays: visible content (faces, text, signs, addresses in a picture), file names, technical data needed to display a file correctly such as photo orientation and color profile, Office comments and tracked changes, PDF annotations and attachments, and metadata inside files packed in a ZIP.
- Supported formats: JPEG/JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, still HEIC/HEIF, classic TIFF; MP4, MOV, M4V, AVI, FLV, MKV, WebM, 3GP, 3G2; MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, Ogg Vorbis, Opus, ADTS AAC, audio-only WMA/ASF; PDF, DOCX, XLSX, PPTX; ZIP. RAW, AVIF, BigTIFF and legacy Office formats are not supported.
- Limits: files up to 25 MB, PDFs up to 5 MB. Encrypted, signed, interactive and object-stream PDFs are rejected. One file at a time. It does not edit metadata or convert formats. There is no web version.
- Android note: the Android photo picker removes location data before it hands a photo to apps without media location access. To see a photo's stored location in MetaQuiet, open it with Browse Files.
- Availability: in testing on Android and iPhone. People can join the testers from https://metaquiet.com/download/ and early users keep Pro at no cost when Pro launches.
